The Facilitation team is distributed around the circle to help maintain balanced attention throughout the space. Each point is held by a primary Facilitator, who may be flanked by supporting members assisting or apprenticing. Together they form a team that attends to People, Space, and Time. Facilitators may also fit into specific roles.
The Weaver (People). Tending to the human fabric of YAS4US, the Players, their Offerings, and possible facilitations that may intervene, and the interwoven energetics between them. This role involves practicing deep energetic listening: attuning not only to words, but to subtle cues, emotions, and shifts in the Field.
The Conductor (Space). Like copper conducting current, the Conductor tracks the energy in the room. They notice shifts in balance, intensity, or fatigue. They have various tools at their disposal: using music, rituals, pre-session "Scratchers," re-arranging the seating and other non-facilitating ways that help shape the environment so the Field stays safe, alive and coherent.
The Balombo (Time). Named for the "Talking Drums" heard throughout West Africa for centuries: sophisticated communication devices sometimes transmitting messages hundreds of miles, and used locally for rites of passage, ancestral spirits, and social dances. In YAS4US, our Balombo keeps the rhythm of the session to orient the group, track time, and help participants know where they are in the flow.
Though each of these roles has a primary point of focus, the responsibilities are not exclusive. At times the Conductor, Weaver, and Balombo may overlap in one another's area, coordinating as a team to keep the container steady.
Supporting Facilitators learn as they contribute. A skilled drummer may accompany the Balombo. An aspiring Weaver may whisper observations or step in to practice under guidance. They may also discretely pass messages between more experienced Facilitators so such communications are less disruptive to the process in play. This creates a culture of apprenticeship, where facilitation is not only structure but living transmission.
A guiding philosophy for our facilitations is that the attention stays centered with the Player. Just as we encourage Players to bring their energy forward into the Eye, we ask our Facilitators to pull their energy back: to center themselves into deep listening and to intervene with great restraint and discernment. All facilitation is in service to the Player's self-expression, without falling into "facipulation," interrupting the Player's flow and manipulating the Offering into an unwanted leader-follower dynamic or "journey."
